Brinda Somaya started Somaya and Kalappa Consultants in a garden shed in Mumbai which eventually became one of the most prestigious Architecture and Design firms of India with international recognition. Known for her innovation & sensitivity in design, Brinda has been the recipient of many awards throughout her career. The Indian Institute of Architects – Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement is just one of them. Somaya believes in adding social equity and conservation to her architecture. Based in Bengaluru, Chitra specializes on themes related to ecology and architecture. She’s managing her own architectural firm, Biome Environmental Solutions, for almost 27 years now. She is the Principal Architect and the MD of BIOME Environment Solutions Private Limited and believes in restoring a balanced environment. She has over 500 projects to her credential which includes a mud house in 135sqm area to promote environmentally sound architectures. She has designed and implemented several real estate developments including residences, institutions, and resorts based on ecological principles, integrating sound water, energy, and land-use.

When it comes to naming the top 5 architects of India, you cannot go without mentioning Sheila. An urban designer, sustainability expert, Sheila founded Shilpa Architects Planners Designers way back in 1979.She has designed several critically acclaimed projects in her portfolio not only in India but abroad as well. A passionate Bharatnatyam dancer and musician, Sheila is also the founding trustee of The Reciprocity Foundation. Among recent accolades, she has been awarded the “Bene Merenti” (2017) Medallion by The University of Architecture and Urbanism, Romania and the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research.

Shimul owns her architectural firm SKJ Architects in Mumbai. She set it up in 1990 after completing her r Master’s degree in Michigan She comes with diversified experience in designing industrial buildings, bungalows, educational institutions, and interior designing of large spaces. She is one of the most trusted names in Indian architecture sector and has won an award for her phenomenal transition of a commercial factory complex into an office space. Her recent contemporary designs include the restaurant “Thai me up” (owned by Suniel Shetty) and the Fabindia showroom in Mumbai. She has won the Prix Versailles (restaurants category) and the special prize for an exterior (hotels category) at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris for Lotus Cafe and Dasavatara Hotel in Tirupati which are truly remarkable!
