Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone of a new office building of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) – ‘Kaushal Bhawan’, to be built by Navratna CPSE NBCC at New Moti Bagh, New Delhi at a cost of Rs. 172 crore.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Hon’ble MP (Lok Sabha), Dr K P Krishnan, Secretary MSDE, Dr Anoop Kumar Mittal, CMD, NBCC and Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, DG(Training) were present among other distinguished guests who attended the ceremony.

Spread over 1.35 acres with a total construction area of 24,118 sq mt, the new building will have three basements, Ground plus seven floors of offices and a parking space for more than 300 vehicles.  The building, with a maximum height of 33.6 metres, will be in line with India’s global environmental commitments and has been imagined as a “future ready” complex being built using a composite steel structure and RCC structure with Diaphragm walls for earth retention around trees.

The design approach shall preserve the large Banyan and Neem trees at the site by integrating them in the building design, which will constitute a cool micro-climate for hot and dry weather in the complex.  There shall be a zero discharge water management system to ensure reuse of water for flushing, air-conditioning and horticulture. The structure will comply with four-star GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) ratings and will use solar energy for the lighting of common area and exteriors.

Speaking on the development, Dr Anoop Kumar Mittal, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NBCC, said, “We are honoured to have been selected by the Ministry to build their office. This will be one of the iconic and environment-friendly buildings, incorporated with sustainable features.”

The safe and cost-effective building has been designed on the principles of sustainable, contextual and democratic architecture and also adheres to energy efficient design and digital security systems. The building after completion will also be housing an auditorium, mini-convention centre, cafeteria, a food court, a yoga hall, sports facilities and gymnasiums among others.

NBCC has been at the forefront of developing skills of construction workers and had inked an MoU with Construction Skill Development Council of India (CSDCI) to train 20,000 youth.

Also in the past, NBCC has constructed various state-of-the-art office buildings like the headquarters of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Central Information Commission (CIC) here. It has also undertaken the construction of Bangladesh Bhawan at the campus of Visva Bharati University in Kolkata, Tripura and Karnataka Bhawan in Delhi and is currently executing Vanijya Bhawan and Gujarat Bhawan in New Delhi among others.
